ELEKTRA ENSEMBLE is an ensemble of five outstanding Icelandic musicians. Occasionally, Elektra Ensemble invites other musicians to perform with them in large-scale projects. Although based in Iceland, all the members have performed as soloists, chamber musicians and orchestral players in Iceland as well as in Europe, Asia and the USA. Founded in 2008, Elektra Ensemble has since given regular concerts at the Reykjavík Art Museum, Kjarvalsstaðir, and performed at the Dark Music Days Festival, the Festival of Sacred Arts, the Nordic Council Prize ceremony, Reykjavík Opera Days, Halland Opera and Vocal Festival in Sweden and Bozar Center for Fine Arts in Brussels.
The ensemble was chosen as The Music Group of Reykjavik City 2009, followed by a co-sponsorship contract with the Reykjavik Art Museum where they held regular concerts until 2015. Since 2016 Elektra Ensemble has been a part of a concert series, Classical Sundays, at Harpa Reykjavík Concert Hall. Elektra Ensemble’s concerts and recordings for The Icelandic Broadcasting Service have been received with critical acclaim. The ensemble regularly works with living composers and gives premieres of their works as well as performing repertoire from the classical period to our days. Elektra Ensemble has received numerous grants from Reykjavík City and The Ministry of Culture’s Music Fund. Moreover, the members received the annual artists’ awards from the government of Iceland in 2016 for their work with Elektra Ensemble.
