Guðbjörg Hilmarsdóttir and Kári Þormar
The first family concert will be July 5 where the singer Guðbjörg Hilmarsdóttir and organist Kári Þormar will play and sing hymns, both from the current Icelandic hymnbook, but also some brand new hymns from the hymnbook that will be published later this year. You will also get a chance to learn about the organ, the largest instrument in the world.
Later the same day Hilmarsdóttir and Þormar will present another program at the concert “Baroque in Skálholt”. They will present a program with works by G.F. Handel, F. Caccini, B. Strozzi, J. Haydn og J. S. Bach, both solo organworks, opera arias and arias from oratorios.

Guðbjörg Hilmarsdóttir
Guðbjörg Hilmarsdóttir is an Icelandic singer. She graduated with a bachelor in singing from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA in 2014, under the guidance of Dian Lawler-Johnson. Before that she studied at the Vocal School in Reykjavík with Signý Sæmundsdóttir as a teacher and the Vocal School Sigurður Dementz with the teachers Bjarney Ingibjörg Gunnlaugsdóttir and Hallveig Rúnarsdóttir. Hilmasdóttir graduated from her master degree in music education at the Iceland University of the Arts in 2017. Her vocal teacher during her master degree was Sigrún Hjálmtýsdóttir. Hilmarsdæottir has been as soloist with a range of choirs and participated in many performances both in Iceland and in USA. She has specialized in performing church music the last years and worked closely with Kári Þormar. They have held weekly concerts in the Cathedral in Reykjavík performing hymns. As well as being a singer, Hilmarsdóttir is also a vocal teacher and coach for the theater students at the Borgarholt school.
Kári Þormar
KáriÞormar studied piano under the guidance of Jónas Ingimundarson and organ with Herði Áskelsson. He then moved to Düsseldorf to study church music at the Robert Schumann University where he graduated with the top grade. Þormar has held a number of organ concerts both in Iceland and abroad, for ex. at the organ festival in the Åland Islands and the international music festival in Mühlhausen in Germany. He received a grant from the Karl Sighvatsson foundation in 1997. Þormar has played a significant part in Icelandic music scene both as an organist, a piano teacher and a choir conductor. He was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards for the cd Það er óskaland íslenskt where he conducted the Áskirkju choir. Þormar became the organist at the Cathedral in Reykjavík in 2010, and is still working there.
